River Fishing The River Frome below Wareham Bridge is an excellent spot for fishing. The river is tidal and enters the sea at Poole Harbour, some 2 miles downstream. You can catch roach, mullet, flounders, trout and salmon. Fishing is free downstream of the road bridge. All you need is your national rod license. You can park your car at Wareham Quay, where there are public toilets and some excellent pubs and restaurants. Sea Fishing Sea Fishing is very popular. The "Shambles" sandbank is well known for catching plaice and turbot and the coastline has a number of shipwrecks which attract pollack, cod and conger eels. Boats can be chartered from Poole and Weymouth and are best booked in advance, see:-
Weymouth Charter Boats Shore Fishing Dorset is one of the best places for shore fishing. It offers every kind of beach, from sandy to rocky; steep to shallow. Kimmeridge Bay is reputed to be good for Bass but can be snaggy, so expect some tackle loss. Mupe Bay and Worbarrow Bay are also good, but are more difficult to reach. They are east of Lulworth Cove and lie within the Army Ranges, which are only accessible at weekends, or during the Easter Holidays and the month of August. The Pier at Weymouth is good for garfish, mackerel, pollack and scad. |
