The Swanage Railway operates on 6 miles of standard gauge railway and runs from Swanage, via Corfe Castle to Norden Station.

Swanage Railway

The first train left Swanage Station on the 20th May 1885. Some 87 years later British Railway closed the line and lifted all the track.

Train

The current line has been restored to working order through the efforts of the Swanage Railway Society and their volunteers.

Water Stop

Steam Engine

Special events are organised, such as the Grand Steam Gala, the Family Fun Week and the ever popular Santa's Special.

Swanage Railway

You can also book a 90 minute experience, where you savour the thrill of driving and firing a steam locomotive.

Norden Station

Norden Station has a large car park and provides a park and ride facility, which allows you to leave the car behind and visit Swanage on the train.

Steam Engine

The park and ride facility is also ideal for walkers. You can park at Norden Station, walk onto the platform and pick up the path leading into Corfe Castle.

Here you can set off along the Purbeck Way to Swanage, which offers excellent views of Poole Harbour and the South Coast.

You can then relax on the beach with an ice cream and amble back to Swanage Station to catch the steam train to Norden.
