Poole Quay is an interesting location. Plenty of boats coming and going, ice cream sellers, fish & chips, cafes, restaurants and the Poole Pottery shopping outlet. From April to September, every tuesday evening from 6pm is "Motorbike Night". The Quay side is closed to traffic and motorbike owners gather to show off their machines.
Poole Harbour is one of the largest natural harbours in the world and is home to every kind of boat imaginable. Its narrow entrance and sheltered location makes it ideal for sailing. Large yachts swoop across the harbour amidst a flurry of smaller dinghies
Power boats create waves
Fishermen try to ignore it all and concentrate on the catch.
Don't be surprised if you see them step out of the boat! In many places the harbour is very shallow, which partly explains why it is not home to the Royal Navy.
Poole Harbour is also famous for its islands, namely Round Island, Long Island, Green Island, Furzy Island and Brownsea Island. Brownsea Island is easily the largest, covering some 500 acres, its name being derived from the Anglo Saxon for "Brunocs Island".
Ferry Boats leave for Brownsea Island from either Poole Quay or Sandbanks.
Sandbanks is home to some of the most expensive property in the World.
Road traffic crosses the entrance to Poole Harbour via the Chain Ferry. Although the ferry trip from Sandbanks to Studland only takes 10 to 15 minutes, the large volume of cars during summer months can create delays.
