Mupe Bay in Dorset is the first bay east of Lulworth Cove. This shows the view from the top of the steps leading down to Mupe Bay, looking out towards Warbarrow Bay and Tyneham Village. Mupe Bay, Warbarrow and Tyneham are all within the Lulworth Tank Ranges and are only accessible at weekends and during the main holiday periods. You can access the ranges via the gateway to the east of Lulworth Cove, just before the Fossil Forset. Another gateway is located further up on Bindon Hill. The ranges are home to a large number of deer. They also provide grazing land for cattle, horses and sheep. Mupe Bay is often visited by groups of geology students, since the underlying rock strata is nicely exposed. Mupe Rocks used to be a significant danger to shipping. For the geology of Mupe Bay, see the Southampton University web site:- |
