Bovington Tank Museum in Dorset houses the world's finest indoor collection of armoured fighting vehicles dating from the earliest tanks developed to the latest battle tank of the British Army, the Challenger. The Tank Museum includes a unique collection of first World War tanks and a recently restored German Tiger tank, the only one still in working order. It also includes free audio guides, a large car park, gift shop and a licensed restaurant. The Tanks in Action displays throughout the summer help bring history to life. A trip to the Bovington Tank Museum in Dorset may be necessary to get accurate descriptions for the following exhibits:- This looks more like a tractor! Can it really be in the Tank Museum. This is Lawrence of Arabia's motor bike. A Brough Superior. He unfortunately crashed and died in an accident near his home at Clouds Hill, not far from the Tank Museum. In the days of the Rahj you could join the army and drive around in a Rolls Royce. This can't be a British design. Surely not! Very deceptive, these tanks almost look like dinky toys. An early submarine or Dalek perhaps? This looks a mean machine. Fortunately, it was a mobile gun, and did not have a rotating turret. If you look closely you can see propellers. It's a floating Sherman Tank. Several sank during D-Day when they drifted broadside to the waves. This looks like a Hell's Angels dream machine. I'd like to see one do a wheely. I believe this was left over from the Norman Conquest. This little french number liked to keep a low profile. Back to the Rahj again. No low profile here! A bridge layer. The enormous gun barrel on the left was a motar! The original beach buggy. The Tank Museum Shop. An excellent day out, not to be missed. See the Bovington Tank Museum web site:- |
