Gatton House is located on the side of a hill some 6 metres above our car park and it may not be suitable for people who experience difficulty walking up-hill.

Small suitcases with wheels are recommended since the access path is some 66 metres long, with a maximum incline of 1 in 5 and it is not possible to drive up to the front door to drop off people or luggage.

Access Path

The path from the pavement at road level to the front door is approximately 66 metres in length and is laid out as follows:-

Car Park

Our car park is at the bottom of the garden, at road level. One space is available for each guest room.

Access from the car park is via the path described above. A flight of 12 steps, (width 102cm, depth 32 cm, height 17cm) leads up from the car park to the Sycamore Tree and is available as an alternative to the first section of path outlined above.

Outside Lighting

The path and steps are clearly lit by lanterns and low level rope lights on the handrails. There is a dawn-to-dusk light in the porch.

Ground Floor

There is a 10cm step at the front door. This leads into the hall and reception area. From the reception, there is level access into the lounge, dining room and a small toilet. There are no guest bedrooms at ground floor level.

Staircase and Corridors

The staircase, corridors and landings are all carpeted and well lit, the lights being left on 24 hours a day.

The main staircase is straight with a banister and has 13 steps (width 85cm, depth 25cm, height 19cm) leading from the reception hall to a small landing. Level access leads from this landing, through a fire door to the Wareham and Moreton rooms.

Continuing upwards, the stairs turns to the left and there are 3 more steps (width 85cm, depth 34 cm, height 19cm) and another fire door before reaching the Clavell and Purbeck rooms.

Continuing along the corridor, there is one more step (width 92cm, height 14 cm) and then level access to the Lulworth, Hambury, Bindon and Tyheham rooms. At the far end of the corridor there is a fire exit.

Guest Rooms

All bedrooms are carpeted and the floors within the en-suite areas are ceramic tiled. All rooms are well lit offering a choice of wall lights or bedside lights.

The Wareham, Purbeck, Lulworth and Bindon rooms have baths with a shower over them. The Hambury, Moreton, Clavell and Tyneham rooms have shower cubicles. None of the showers have grab rails, seats or level access. Access heights into the shower cubicles vary between 13cm and 30cm. A rubber non-slip mat is provided for each bath or shower.
